4-5 League Rules

League-specific rules

  • The game will be four (4) quarters with six (6) minutes per quarter.  
  • Time clock will be ran the same as high school.
  • Goal height is 10’. The ball size is 28.5”.  
  • Overtime 1st OT- 2 minutes. 2nd OT- first point wins. 
  • Halftime will be five (5) minutes.  

PLAYING TIME REQUIREMENTS

  • Each player must play one full quarter in each half of the game. 
  • The exception to the rule: If the on-court official deems a player should be removed from the game due to injury or illness which in the official’s judgement might jeopardize the safety or well-being of said player.  

Intentional and Technical Fouls 

  • Will be called the same as high school games 
  • Taunting and individual celebrations are technical fouls 
  • Players sit out the next half if they receive a technical foul. Player will sit out 2nd half if foul occurs in 1st half of game. Player will sit out 1st half of next game if it happens in 2nd half of game. 

DEFENSE

  • Players cannot play defense until the offense crosses the half court line. When the defense takes possession of the ball, the offense must return to the defensive end of the court.  
  • Man-to-man defense only.   
  • Full court press is allowed during the last two minutes of each half and overtime. The exception is, the leading team may not press if leading by ten (10) or more points. No Trapping allowed at any time.

FREE THROWS

  • Free throws will be awarded on all shooting fouls. HS rules apply  

BONUS FREE THROWS

  • HS rules apply 

OVERTIME

  • Overtime will only be used in tournament play.

TIMEOUTS

  • Each team will be two (2) time outs per half. The time outs must be taken in their respective halves, or they will be lost. One (1) timeout will be provided/allowed during an overtime period. Timeouts will be one (1) minute in length  

VISTORS AND HOME

  • Visitors/Home team will be based on game schedule. Visitors will be responsible for the time clock and score board. Home will be responsible for the score book. Please use adults for these responsibilities  

HIGH SCORE RULE

  • A maximum of sixteen (16) points per player will be allowed to encourage coaches to develop other players in that league. The high scorer will be allowed to continue to play; however, after sixteen (16) points made by high scorer will NOT count. If high scorer does score a basket the points will NOT be allowed, and the opposing team will get the ball. If the high scorer is fouled in a one and one or double bonus situation, free throws will be shot by another player currently on the floor, with the shooter being chosen by the offended team’s coach.
